2 January 2003 Amstrad E-m@iler Plus Sales Promotion Amstrad plc announced today that the retail price of its e-m@iler plus has been halved in most retail outlets to around £49.99 in a move aimed at significantly increasing the installed base. Although this planned price reduction will increase the initial subsidy on sale the impact has been partly offset by lower manufacturing costs and the introduction over the last few months of additional revenue earning services on the phone. Amstrad remains fully committed to the e-m@iler business and continues to develop new software that enhances the functionality and revenue earning potential of the phone and which is periodically downloaded to the existing installed base. In addition Amstrad has recently agreed with Texas Instruments to use its OMAP5910 ARM+DSP IC for the core central processor technology of future generation e-m@ilers. Amstrads Commercial Director Simon Sugar said today, We have had nearly three years experience of running the e-m@iler business and the revenue earned per phone has held up well and we continue to add new revenue earning services to the phone. The significant increase to the installed base expected from this move will enhance the future profitability of the e-m@iler business. The price reduction will be supported by press advertising and in store promotions and we are confident that this will increase sales significantly Further information: Nick Hewer Phone 07785 318737 E-mail hewer@amstrad.com Notes: The e-m@iler plus is sold below cost with the initial subsidy on sale recouped through a long term revenue stream derived from e-mail, internet access, sms, games, advertising and voice services. Amstrads UK e-m@iler business is operated through a separate company, Amserve Ltd which is 89.8% owned by Amstrad and 10.2% owned by Dixons plc. Go to News Headlines |
